Limitations & Scope of Practice

It is important for clients to know the areas of expertise and limitations of their counsellor. Counselling and psychology are two different professions and disciplines. I am not a psychologist. I studied counselling which is a different discipline.

I do not bulk bill, I do not accept Medicare or Mental Health Care Plans. I do not conduct mental health assessments or psychological assessments or diagnose mental illnesses. Counsellors, however, are experts at listening and creating a safe space for clients and helping them find short term solutions. Counsellors do have training to work with clients who present with mild to moderate mental health issues who are psychologically stable by helping them to alleviate stressors in their life such as social anxieties and emotional distress. These might be related to their work life, family dynamics, chronic pain, sleep issues, compulsive disorders, self-esteem, romantic relationships, or substance abuse. My approach consists of providing my clients with psycho-education and evidence based interventions and coping skills which helps improve their mental health and quality of life and gain perspective on their issues.

I network with mental health professionals including clinical psychologists and psychiatrists and make appropriate referrals as needed.

A mental health care plan or a GP referral is not required to make an appointment.

My counselling registration and insurance policies do not allow me to see clients who reside in the US or Canada. All other countries are ok.

Policies and Procedures

cancellation and rescheduling policy

To maintain a consistent and reliable service for all clients, the following cancellation and rescheduling conditions apply:

Notice Period

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows the session time to be offered to another client.

Late Cancellations & Missed Appointments

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, or failure to attend a scheduled session, will incur 50% of the session fee. This applies regardless of the reason, unless there are exceptional circumstances at my discretion.

Arriving Late

Sessions begin and end at the scheduled time. If you arrive late, the session will still finish at the original end time, and the full fee applies.

Therapist Cancellations

If I need to cancel or reschedule a session, I will provide as much notice as possible and offer the next available appointment time.

Ongoing Non‑Attendance

Repeated cancellations, no‑shows, or chronic lateness may result in the discontinuation of services at my discretion.

Boundaries and Expectations

BOUNDARIES AND EXPECTAIONS

To maintain a safe, respectful, and effective therapeutic environment, the following boundaries and expectations apply to all clients. These guidelines protect both the counselling process and the wellbeing of everyone involved.

Professional Boundaries

Counselling is a professional relationship. Communication outside of sessions is limited to scheduling, brief clarifications, or sharing relevant documents. I do not engage in ongoing emotional support, crisis counselling, or therapeutic conversations outside booked sessions. This ensures the work remains structured, contained, and effective.

Respectful Conduct

All interactions must remain respectful, calm, and safe. Abusive, aggressive, or inappropriate behaviour — in person or through messages — will not be tolerated. If such behaviour occurs, services may be paused or discontinued at my discretion.

Attendance & Punctuality

Sessions begin and end at the scheduled time. Arriving late reduces the time available for your session. Consistent cancellations, no‑shows, or chronic lateness may result in the discontinuation of services.

Therapeutic Fit

Effective counselling requires a good therapeutic fit. If at any point I determine that I am not the best practitioner for your needs, or that the therapeutic relationship is no longer appropriate, I may discontinue services at my discretion. Referrals will be provided where possible.

Client Responsibility

Clients are expected to participate actively, complete agreed‑upon tasks or reflections between sessions, and communicate openly about their goals and concerns. Therapy is most effective when both parties engage with clarity and commitment.

Social Media Privacy Policy

Disclaimer

Social Media Disclaimer

The intention for using social media is for marketing, education, advocacy, and providing content that viewers may find useful. A counselling relationship is a professional relationship and in today's technological climate, a social media presence or following your counsellor on social media is not to be confused with a relationship outside of sessions. Ethical, professional, and therapeutic boundaries must be followed and honoured. To maintain confidentiality if you are a client, you can follow me on social media, however, it is recommended that you do not engage, comment, share or react to content from your counsellor's social media pages.

Direct messaging is another risk to your privacy. Remember, commenting and messaging between sessions is not a confidential or encouraged means of communication. Please schedule an official session to discuss, explore, and ask any treatment related questions or concerns. Social media is not an appropriate medium for sharing therapeutic concerns, questions, comments, or reaching out in crisis to your counsellor. When you direct message you may not be interacting with the counsellor directly. Comments and messages are monitored by social media admins and staff.

A counsellor's social media page is not therapy, a replacement for a professional counselling relationship, or substitute for mental health care. A social media presence as a counselling professional is not seeking an endorsement or rating from past or current clients. No social media posts should be considered professional advice. The information contained in posts is general information for educational purposes only.

I do not offer counselling via DM's or give personal opinions to questions like 'should I leave my partner'.

I honour myself and others by deleting or blocking people who are disrespectful, demeaning or ill-spirited. I understand that you may not agree with all my posts and you may find my posts unhelpful to you so I invite you to unfollow or block me whenever you want. Counsellor and marriage therapist isn’t my identity, it’s my occupation. I am human.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, you should call 000 or admit yourself to your nearest hospital or Emergency Room. Alternatively, you should call Lifeline on 13 11 14 for free 24-hour crisis and suicide prevention support.
